Sharon Son

Originally born in South Korea, I migrated to New Zealand in 2000 with my family. I grew up in Auckland and lived in Dunedin where I pursued a career in dentistry at the University of Otago. After graduating in 2011, I gained valuable experience working in both Australia and Auckland. In 2018, I joined Taradale Family Dental after moving to Hawke's Bay.
I pride myself on making patients comfortable and ensure that all my patients receive high quality dental care in the most relaxed environment. I work to very high standards and keep up-to-date with the ever-changing field of dentistry by regularly attending courses and conferences. I'm also a member of the New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA).
I'm happily married to Dave with a young daughter Misha. We also have two furry babies. As hobbies, I enjoy arts & craft, reading, watching movies and visiting nice cafes and restaurants.
Dave Tyman
BDS - DENTIST
Hi I’m Dave, the owner of Taradale Family Dental alongside Sharon. I grew up in Hawke’s Bay and attended Napier Boys’ High school. After graduating at Otago University in 2013, I practiced in Auckland for a few years before seeing the light and making Hawke’s Bay my home again.
I enjoy the variety that general dentistry offers. I get to do a range of dental treatments from check-ups to full mouth restorative cases. It is fantastic getting to meet so many great local people.
I am passionate about dentistry and like to regularly attend dental courses. This ensures maintaining an excellent standard of dentistry to my patients. I focus on presenting all the options to my patients and tailoring treatment to their goals. I also concentrate on having a gentle touch and making your dental appointment as comfortable as possible.
I am fortunate enough to be married to Sharon and we have a lovely daughter Misha. Outside dentistry I am a fishing enthusiast. This includes both saltwater fishing and trout fishing. I am also a sports nut and play for the local Taradale football club as well as supporting the MIGHTY Chelsea.
Mark Purkiss
BSc BDS - DENTIST
Originally from the UK, I graduated from Manchester University in 1991 and have over 30 years of experience in various practices in the UK and New Zealand. During my dental degree I was offered the rare chance to take a separate Pathology degree (BSc) and was the first student in the dental school to participate in an Erasmus student exchange to Denmark.
I have completed a two year American Orthodontics study course, becoming a member of the International College of Continuing Dental Education (ICCDE). I regularly complete over 60 hours of additional dental study each year and I'm a member of the New Zealand Dental Association (NZDA).
I moved to Taradale in 2004 and three lovely children who grew up here locally. When not working I enjoy most things outdoors, particularly fishing, football and skiing. Indoors, I have previously played guitar and bass in various bands that shall not be mentioned here...
And of course, I'm now an “expectant” fan of Arsenal Football Club.
Sheree Lack
PRACTICE MANAGER
I have been a member of the Taradale Family Dental team since it was established in 2007. I enjoy working alongside such a supportive, caring and friendly team.
You will meet me when you arrive at reception, where I like to welcome patients and make it a positive and comfortable experience for all.
Outside of work my passion is watching my three adult sons play football and futsal and spending time with family and friends. I also enjoy walking my beautiful chocolate Labrador and calling in for a coffee at some of our wonderful cafes in Napier.
I look forward to meeting our regular and new patients at Taradale Family Dental.
Irene O'Malley
DENTAL ASSISTANT/RECEPTIONIST
Hi I’m Irene. A local Hawkes Bay girl, I have been with the team since the day Taradale Family Dental began operating.
I enjoy working with my colleagues, job sharing with reception and dental assisting.
I am married with three adult children and have four grandchildren. I still enjoy a good game of tennis and regular walking.
I look forward to seeing you all at Taradale Family Dental.
Jo Dighton

Hello, I am Jo. I have worked at Taradale Family Dental for 10 years.
I moved to NZ in 2005 from Hythe in Southern England with my husband and two children. We are extremely happy living in Hawkes Bay and enjoy all that NZ has to offer. I like being by the sea, kayaking, swimming and snorkelling. I love cooking reading, entertaining, music, travel and last but not least the lovely HB wineries.
I am part of a great team at Taradale Family Dental and enjoy meeting and assisting with our lovely patients.
Zoe Symonds
DENTAL ASSISTANT
Hi, I am the newest member of the Taradale Family Dental team.
I worked alongside Dave for several years at a previous practice so it’s been great to come and join him here and be a part of this great team!
I live locally with my husband and two boys, 10 and 12, who are rugby mad and play for Taradale. On weekends you will find me pacing up and down the field side-lines being rather vocal with my encouragement! The boys are also very keen on their karate and are currently working on their third belts. My husband and I own a small earthworks company too, so between our work and the boys extracurricular activities we are certainly kept on our toes.
The team here at TFD have been so wonderful in welcoming me on board and I look forward to meeting many of our lovely patients as time goes on.
